Artist Statement: Spring represents re-birth, renewal, and awakening. Some celebrate spring with easter themed imagery that can include a bunny with baskets of coloured eggs. For many, spring represents the opportunity to grow a garden. Stores sell seeds in little square packets. Rubber boots and rain gear replace snow boots and winter jackets. Images of chicks and goslings can be associated with spring.

After dealing with multiple waves of infection and new variants this spring offers hope that the worst of COVID could be over. The lifting of restrictions such as mask mandates can signify renewal and awakening. My aim is to create imagery traditionally associated with spring to share my hope that this spring represents a true re-birth from a long and difficult pandemic. —Ashlyn Mcgregor
