Artist Statement: Liminal states make me think of the states between life, death, and the afterlife. Individuals can sometimes get stuck and can’t seem to move on to the next phase of life after the death of a loved one. Death raises challenging questions. Some turn to religion and others just believe in the deep void.
For someone who hasn’t experienced loss in a big way, it is hard to wrap my head around. The idea that you will no longer see someone that has always been a part of your life is difficult to imagine. My series of five coloured drawings is a portrayal of a loved one who has passed on and has taken form as a bedsheet ghost. He is looking over his loved ones, specifically his granddaughter. —Sophia O'Neill
