Artist Statement: My five digital drawings are of edgelands. I thought of creeks when someone says edgelands. During the pandemic, I have noticed how careless people seem to be with their disposable masks. They throw them on the ground which can’t be good for animals and other things. The contrast between the masks designed to protect against a virus and also polluting the world is interesting to think about.

As I walked in edgeland spaces along a pretty creek, I took photos for reference and then added in the masks as a part of my digital illustrations. I created the illustrations in Photoshop, making it easy to add many or few masks to each scene. The contrast of colour on the black and white landscapes also represents just how easy it is for us to impact the earth especially during the pandemic.
