Artist Statement: I have searched to understand edgelands near me and ideas associated with them by creating a series of digital illustrations. The global pandemic has been an interesting and challenging experience for everyone. These side-by-side images convey my feelings about the experience. Though each illustration can act as a standalone image, pieced together from left to right, they represent a narrative about the barriers that exist between the virtual world and in-person interactions.

Throughout this pandemic, we have been restricted to our screens and communicating virtually to stay connected. Regardless, we remain hopeful that life can return to what it used to be. The overall composition represents how spending time in natural spaces, or edgelands have helped me deal with going from a virtual world back into the real world. Despite how amazing technology is at keeping us connected, there is always a desire to reach through the screen and connect with the physical world—to sit side-by-side or speak with someone truly face-to-face.
