Artist Statement: Edgelands to me is a place you don't always see or go into. Spaces that can be still and quiet, and even full of comfort and warmth. This idea of edgelands inspired my works of art. I wanted to convey that sense of the stillness in nature and the world by creating images using a variety of mediums.
My artistic style ventures between cartooning and semi-realism, with scenes often set in imaginative mind spaces. These mind spaces represent an escape from reality and the sometimes harsh and unfavorable circumstances we experienced in everyday life.
These imaginative mind spaces, often set in real life settings, are places of joy that are rooted in my family's love of the outdoors. They are places to come back to when feeling stressed and the overwhelming pull of all that is happening around us. The natural world and even interesting urban spaces bring me comfort. They are a piece of the larger world around me that to me is undeniably beautiful; and it is in that beauty that I feel at home.
