Artist Statement: The season is winter, so I worked with any image I could find of edglands regardless the time of year the photo was captured, but I am depressed so I wanted the colours of each photo illustration to be bright. I am bipolar and these expressions of my mind represent my sense that I cannot resolve what each image portrays. Unconventional neural pathways lead me to imagine that edgelands in each of these images are not really on the edge of any one land or that they belong to any one mindscape.
I love messing with photographs by drawing on top of them digitally. It is an attempt to render the already beautiful more like how I can see them in my mind’s eye. What is depicted in the photos is not in competition with what my mind sees. Beautiful is beautiful even when manipulated, and it is a journey of sorts to see that transformation.
